Background: Patient engagement is critical to enhancing outcomes in voice therapy. Voice production can be a more complicated process that patients perceive and patient education about voice and airway physiology can be critical to facilitating an optimal outcome. Visual aids are known to enhance learning and cognitive retention.
Format: We will share case examples of three common conditions for which we have successfully used visual strategies and low-cost technology to enhance patient understanding of their medical condition in order to improve their engagement in voice therapy. We will also share the barriers we have overcome and continue to face in using these techniques.
Conclusions: Patient engagement can be enhanced by strategies that improve patient education using visual references and current technologies. This can have a positive experience on the patient and provider experience and has been shown to improve voice therapy outcomes. Session
